Providence, R.I. – The annual benefit gala for Hasbro Children’s Hospital on March 9 welcomed more than 800 attendees and raised more than $1 million in gross revenues—the second consecutive year the event has broken the million-dollar mark. Hasbro Children’s Hospital furthered its “All for One” commitment to improving the lives of patients and their families with its annual fundraising gala to benefit the hospital. Each year, the event takes on a different children’s toy theme. This year’s ball was titled the “Play-Doh Ball” in recognition of the PLAY-DOH toys from Hasbro, Inc.
“The theme of this year’s event is ‘shaping the future’ of pediatric medicine, education and research, and over the past 19 years Hasbro Children’s Hospital has shaped the lives of a generation of children,” said Timothy J. Babineau, M.D., president and chief executive officer, Lifespan, and president, Rhode Island Hospital/Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “Because of the generosity of our donor community who supported this incredible event, we will continue to be a crucial resource for children and families throughout the region.”
The festivities included an Alex and Ani raffle, a silent auction, and a live auction hosted by Tony Petrarca, chief meteorologist for Eyewitness News WPRI 12. As a special presentation by title sponsor Hasbro, Inc., the evening also included a guest performance by singer-songwriter Kenny Loggins, who has enjoyed hit songs for four straight decades, including songs from the soundtracks to Footloose and Top Gun.
The live auction funded the “All for One” Family Assistance Fund to support the countless families throughout the region who rely on Hasbro Children’s Hospital for care and who do not have the means to take care of their basic expenses during a long hospital stay or frequent hospital visits, such as child care, transportation, and groceries.
Petrarca was the gala’s emcee, with keynote speeches by hospital leaders including Scott Laurans, chair of the Lifespan Board of Directors; Brian D. Goldner, Hasbro, Inc. president and CEO; and event chairs Dolph and Maureen Johnson. A video was shown of patient Emma Katzen, her family and her treatment team.
“Hasbro Children’s Hospital’s ‘All for One’ commitment to the community means that their knowledge, experience and passion for healing are devoted to each child in their care,” said Goldner. “The hospital remains a beacon of hope for local families, and Hasbro, Inc. is honored and delighted to be an integral part of that commitment.”
The 2013 gala contributions support several critical programs with the greatest needs at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. The annual Hasbro Children’s Hospital ball has raised nearly $9.5 million since its inception in 1993. The event is presented by Hasbro, Inc., with more than 75 corporations and individuals (local, regional and national) participating as sponsors. Among them are Toys‘R’Us, Alex and Ani, KPMG, CVS Caremark, WPRI 12, GTECH, Amgen, Amica, William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, Collette Vacations and Dimeo Construction.
